Michael’s practice focuses on advising business owners and for-profit entities in all phases of the business life cycle.
Michael advises business owners and entities on various issues ranging from formation to financing to sales and purchases of companies. His representation includes the formation of for-profit and not-for-profit entities, the negotiation of third-party service agreements, business licensing agreements, management service organization structures, and long-term strategy counseling. Michael also is well experienced in assisting business owners and companies in their ownership transition. He negotiates and structures asset and stock purchases and sales, as well as business restructuring transactions.
Michael also has a breadth of knowledge in the collegiate and professional sports industry. He has regularly advised collegiate athletes on various NCAA initial eligibility and compliance concerns, name, image, and likeness (NIL) legislation, and the negotiation of licensing agreements. Michael has also assisted professional athletes and their advisors with contract negotiations and various types of licensing agreements. In addition, Michael has advised various professional athletic personnel on contractual and labor concerns and has negotiated executive compensation agreements for various members of sports organizations.
Within his legal practice, Michael prides himself on serving as a trusted advisor and confidant for his clients. He understands that building a meaningful relationship with each client is as important as providing excellent legal service.
Prior to Morgenstern DeVoesick, Michael was the founder of a sports agency for professional hockey players. Michael graduated cum laude from Ohio Northern University’s Claude W. Pettit College of Law, where he served as a member of the negotiation team. He currently resides in Greece with his wife. Michael currently serves on the board of Rochester Youth Hockey, Inc.
